What do we do with the obstacles that face us? Do we lie down and surrender or mow them over like Frank the Tank
Who knew that one little black dog could touch so many lives? He was found in the middle of a busy road. A thin pup, covered in fleas, who had been hit by a car. With the help of several good Samaritans he found his way to an animal hospital. Many strays in this situation would have been put down, but the doctor decided to give him a chance. He had several fractures in his pelvis and a number of breaks in his hip, knee, and ankle. (Plus some deep scrapes that still don’t grow hair, and a couple of crooked toes!)
Frank underwent multiple surgeries to repair his broken leg and hip, and had to endure a lot of pain. There were times they didn't know if he would keep his leg or even make it. Not the easiest patient, he developed a reputation of stubborn determination. Later when he was able to be out of his kennel, Frank would not be slowed. With both back legs immobilized he would drag himself around the clinic with his front paws. If something was in his way, he would mow it over, and so he became “Frank the Tank”.
A Heeler Mix, and let's put emphasis on the "mix" part, Frank had plenty of energy and kept the clinic workers on their toes as he got better. He also won their hearts with his happy smile and zest for life. After 4 months of living at the hospital, Frank entered a foster program through a local animal rescue organization, and later “chose” his forever home. Frank walks with quite a swagger, which matches his personality perfectly. He is no softy; there is no Golden Retriever in that body! Frank the Tank is demanding, stubborn, determined and clever. He is also loving, playful, and sweet...And those ears!
To look at Frank is to look at sheer exuberance. He doesn’t notice that one leg is shorter than the other, or doesn’t bend. He has no idea that he is disabled. On days when his leg and hips are sore, he hops. If his leg gets tired he plops down for a rest. He faces each day with a sense of wonder and adventure. For Frank the Tank everyday is the greatest day yet.
*Frank enjoys helping others and inspired a line of “Frank the Tank” t-shirts to remind us to live fully. Frank personally delivered these shirts and donated the proceeds to help rescue animals. Frank most recently signed on to be the “face” of Four Legged Fashion, inspiring the logo and event.
*Frank currently resides under his mother’s desk in Garland, Texas and approved this story.
